Group leader

Gábor London

Gábor London received his PhD in 2011 from the University of Groningen, where he worked on light-driven molecular motors under the supervision of Prof. Ben Feringa. In the same year, he joined the group of Prof. François Diederich at ETH Zurich where he studied pentalene-based materials. In 2013 Gábor returned to Hungary and became a research associate in the Stereochemistry Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences at the University of Szeged until 2016. Since 2016 he works at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Research Centre for Natural Sciences in Budapest, where he is a group leader since 2018. His current research interests involve the synthesis of unusual π-systems and polydopamine-based surface chemistry.

Post-doctoral fellows

Attila Kunfi

In 2015, he received his MSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Szeged, Hungary. Following a short internship at Stockholm University, he started his PhD studies at the Research Centre for Natural Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in the group of Gábor London. His doctoral research work revolved around polydopamine-based surface chemistry and the synthesis and application of photoswitchable azobenzenes on surfaces. He received his PhD degree in 2020.

Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher, he is focusing on the synthesis and characterization of azoderivatives and diarylethene switches. His research is targeting the application of photoswitchable units in molecular electronics and sensing devices.

PhD Students

Enikő Meiszter

Her main research topic is rediscovering the chemistry of azapentalene, as this neglected conjugated heterocycle can be used for many purposes, such as molecular switches, rotors, and ligands. She is also working on tying up the loose ends in her previous BSc topic, synthesizing and investigating new monobenzopentalene derivatives.
